In 1990 John Wheatley, our ex-club secretary, decided to arrange a social outing for colleagues at the company he worked for. The outing was a fishing trip, it was so successful that 8 of the participants decided that they would like to repeat the exercise. A deposit was taken and trips were booked for the next year ahead.
Sadly the firm closed down, people moved away, however a few wanted to continue fishing. John found a couple more friends who were interested in taken part in the trips and it was decided to formalise the whole thing by creating a club. This took place in 1992, the club was named "The Waltham Abbey Sea Angling Club".
The numbers have risen and fallen over the years and the present membership stands at nine, most of whom live in the Waltham Abbey area.
Trips are generally arranged on a monthly basis with an AGM in April, this being the time when cups and trophy's are presented for weight and specimen fish.

WALTHAM Abbey Sea Angling Club members, who make monthly boat trips off the south
coast, held their annual prize presentation at the local Conservative Club, where deputy mayor Bill Ransome handed over the awards.
Their next big event will be the British Conger championships at Weymouth, June 4 and 5. In their first entry last year they did well to finish in the top third out of 42 clubs.
