Off to Ramsgate this month, a venue the club has not used for many years. Once again the weather was not that kind to us and we had to stay relatively close to the shore for the day. Using a mixture of squid and worms we managed to pick up a few codling which were still around and some whiting.

Back to Rye again for this months trip and this time the weather was actually quite good.  Fished a number of wrecks, both drifting and anchored, however it was not until the last wreck of the day that any really good fish were found. The last wreck made up for this and most people had some very nice cod.

All club members have been looking forward to this trip, which had been planned since last year.

Off to the Scilly Isle via Penzance.

We all drove down to Penzance on the Monday and stayed in  "The Beechwood" B & B, (http://www.beechwoodpenzance.co.uk/) where Martin and Dianne gave us excellent accommodation for the first night and provided us with packed lunches for the trip over the following day. On the Tuesday morning, after a good breakfast we were down to the harbour with all our bags and equipment only to be greeted by some very large waves and strong winds, all beginning to doubt if we were going to be able to make the trip over to the islands. The skipper, David Paddock of the "Capriole" (http://www.deepsea.co.uk/boats/capriole/index.htm) advised us however that it was going to be a rough slow crossing but that we should be able to get across to the islands. The crossing to the Islands took just over 4 hours and we arrived at a mark for some Pollock fishing in the early afternoon. Using Booms with 2-3mtr traces and Red-gills and Jelly worms as bait we managed to fill a couple of boxes with good size Pollock.

We got into the island harbour, St Mary's, late afternoon and found that our accommodation was within 10mtrs of the boat mooring, right there on the quay side was the "Harbourside Hotel", great rooms and food.

On the second day the weather was still being unkind to us, not only windy with choppy seas, but it started to rain as well. We were forced to stay in the shelter of the islands for nearly all of the day, despite this still managed to  reasonable haul of Pollock with a few Dogfish, Cuckoo and Ballan Wrasse.

The third and last day was our day to travel back to Penzance and to fish a number of Marks on the way. We started of by heading out to the Bishops Rock lighthouse and fishing a number of the reefs around the area. Here we picked up some of the biggest Pollock of the trip and again managed to fill another large box. After this it was time for some wreck fishing. Here we added a few nice Ling to our bag of fish.

We eventually got back into Penzance early evening; here we stayed again at "The Beechwood" B & B for the final night before heading home on the Friday.

An excellent trip, with our thanks to the skipper for finding good marks despite the poor weather and his crewman for all his help looking after us and cleaning the fish. Also all the help from Martin and Diane at the B & B, arranging storage/freezing of the fish etc.
